A GRIPPING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
They arrest us and then stick us in some damn interrogation room for a good hour before sending in the big shot profiler.
He's all cool and in charge, and gets things started by reading our psych report.
Unpredictable...
Unreasonable...
No allegiances...
No morals...
The guy goes on for a while.
Now I'm all for flattery, but seriously, this guy's going on and on, and I'm sitting there handcuffed to a desk with better things to do. Eventually though, the guy gets to the good stuff--the three-hundred felonious allegations, the genius level-intellect, the two voices in my head. And it's a pretty easy guess as to where things are about to go.
He'd go on to say how it's not my fault.
How it's the voices who were responsible for what I've done.
How I should stop referring to myself as we.
...Yes, he'd go on to say all of that.
Except he didn't.
And the reason why is about as crazy as I, or rather we, are supposed to be.
ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE BOOKS EVER!

HEARING VOICES is the brand new genre-breaking thriller from Reader's Favorite award winning author, Axel Cruise.
Hearing Voices An Isaac Blaze Thriller Axel Cruise 9780995732018 Books
Axel Cruise is the author of the highly acclaimed psychological thriller Hearing Voices—the first in the Isaac Blaze series. Axel as known, writes fast- paced interweaving story-lines, where his ‘cool and compelling characters’ converse in a natural way that draws in audiences likening them to established literary and iconic figures.British born, Axel grew up ‘pretty much in front of the TV’, and, in much the same way as Quentin Tarantino with films, Axel credits his incredible consumption of TV shows for his extensive knowledge of story craft. Some personal favourites include: Spiderman TAS , Seinfeld , Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dragonball Z.
Axel is a reader, too. His passion for reading and writing is expressed well in his work. His characters are hyper - active and involved, making the plot explode at times. He offers characters who present themselves in the head of Isaac as voices, making the narrative spooky, mysterious and immediate.
Excerpt:
The voices:
"........ one of two that have always been in my head........ Which is actually a pretty bad way of putting it, since they sound as if they’re coming from right behind me. Like the proverbial angel and devil on my shoulders – except both are devils. One male, one female, each their own personality, and both giving me nothing but lip. Which isn’t to say I’m crazy, just that there’s a constant three-way conversation going on in my head, and that the situations I tend to find myself in aren’t entirely my fault."
Isaac is about 27 old, captured and is brought to down town Chicago where he was held. This was not a maximum security detention facility. That would come later. First they wanted to talk to him.
" I was led down the right-hand staircase, its metal mesh clanging under our footsteps. The SWAT guys kept a solid box formation around me as we moved along the right-hand edge of the work floor. The people on the work floor stared, but only for a moment. They were definitely uncomfortable with the proceedings. Isabel peeled off quickly....."
The girl, Isabel, about his age was watching him closely. She must have been able to see the internal debate going on behind his eyes because, after a beat, she said, “Ready now?” Which, of course, she was. She knew what game she was playing. All I knew was that game wasn’t going to end well for someone.
Interrogation tactics are all about discomfort. More discomfort equals better results. Physically speaking, the basic premise is to mismatch body state and environment. Begin with panic and speed, then slow everything down. Spike adrenaline, keep it elevated, and then let it sit. Wear out the suspects. Then break them. Psychologically, it can be as simple as an unlocked door with no way to reach it. This is how the scenes evolve in this tale.
Reflections in the one-way windows , voices, shadows. ..suspense . Figures in the dark probably someone standing behind something looking back at Isaac: "I took a guess that they were standing just off-center and shot my eyes to that spot and smirked like I could see.."
Hays is the squad leader: He exhaled slowly and seemed to size something up in his mind. “So… ” he said. “You’re mad?” Isaac prefers to think of it as "sane adjacent.”
“My point, Mr. Blaze, is that you are a man who should be out in the world—a man following in the footsteps of Einstein, Tesla, and Da Vinci. A man who should be revered and respected. And yet, here you sit. A man who is not. Not ever.”
Hays leaned forward and went back to the folder. “A man whose file implicates him in over three hundred felonies. And a man whose file concludes is unpredictable, unreasonable, and without any clear set of principles, intentions, motivations, beliefs, moralities, or allegiances, which, in combination with his high intellect and proclivity toward provocation, means he must not be engaged lightly and must be considered dangerous at all times.”
Very descriptive narrative:
"There was no hesitation. Just a loud bang followed by a wet slapping sound. The side of Gravel Voice’s head exploded open and a stream of red ejected into the air like ketchup from a squeeze-bottle. It squirted right across the room, chasing the bullet all the way.
There is Isabel:
Very cool. She sat down and placed the Colt on the table. Directly in front of her, barrel facing me. She eased back and down in her chair. Put her right elbow on the chair arm and rested her head on her hand and began gently biting and sucking at the end of her little finger with the side of her mouth. I stayed where I was. My hands cuffed to the table.
The cover page shows the aforementioned scene: Colt, the profile of a man, and a figure of a woman: if so intended! Where will this narrative bring you: definitely not the end, as it is the first book in the series of more.
Very rewarding read. A very skilled storyteller. Enjoy.

Hearing Voices An Isaac Blaze Thriller Axel Cruise 9780995732018 Books Reviews
Hearing Voices, An Isaac Blaze Thriller, e-book written/published by Axel Cruise.
Plot The story opens with Isaac handcuffed to a table after being captured by a group dressed as Federal officers, none of whom display badges however. He believed they were the same persons he has eluded in Rome, Amsterdam, Moscow, and Las Vegas only to be caught here in Cairo, IL. The interrogation is begun by rather well-dressed, multiple doctorate degree recipient from MIT Adrian Hays who establishes the fact that Isaac has an intellect of true genius proportions by asking mathematical questions, and having associate Peter verify immediately by computer. Parenthetically, his knowledge extends beyond the usual range of subjects/conditions permitting him to be highly resourceful and extremely capable physically as well. He even exudes an amount of charisma. As Hays points out, Isaac unfortunately, rather than being a boon to society is “A man whose file implicates him in over three hundred felonies. And a man whose file concludes is unpredictable, unreasonable, and without any clear set of principles, intentions, motivations, beliefs, moralities or allegiances, which, in combination with his high intellect and proclivity toward provocation, means he must not be engaged lightly and must be considered dangerous at all times.” Parenthetically he also is accompanied constantly by the female and male voices within his head with whom he constantly converses, especially with respect to decision making. Hays is interrupted when Isabella, a lovely woman with disturbingly penetrating blue eyes enters the interrogation room. After killing all personnel occupying the relatively sparsely populated building, she has entered with one of the persons prominent in Isaac’s detention whom she has pistol whipped and then kills after saying she had “instructions to make this hurt”. She then kills Peter and asks Hays a question. He replies with the one word “Shanghai” after which she kills him as well. Isaac recognizes her as one of “Harriet Granger’s extremely well trained girls, they converse, and she departs leaving him at the table and chair to which he had been cuffed. He uses his unusual knowledge and expertise to escape. From this explosive introduction the reader is taken on a fast moving, convoluted journey where he meets a number of unusual people and fights various members of CIA’s highly secret and totally deniable Special Activities Division (SAD), high level politicians, governmental agents, agents of only partially explained organizations at varying levels and a rogue operation that had begun as a project initiated in 1945 in the aftermath of WW II. Its mission had been based on a student’s PhD thesis with respect to controlling the human mind beyond the changes suggested by hypnosis. The clandestine group proceeded to develop advanced investigative methods to discover whether human individuals could be controlled mentally and to what extent. The project got ‘out-of-hand’ and supposedly was abandoned, but a rogue group apparently had picked it up and continued with use of drastic measures and disastrous results. The often violent activity continues until ultimately the reader finds the meaning of the initials CT, MK-ULTRA and some others and is provided with an ending that almost cries for, and deserves, the next instalment in Isaac’s life.
Discussion/Conclusion The story is convoluted, fill of minor mysteries, only some of which are solved, similarly mysterious characters about whom even a few more details would be beneficially enjoyable and a reader may vaguely sense that his/her more rational self is treading a fine line. However, generally speaking, the author has provided a well-written, rousing, high octane thriller that if read fast and with total concentration on the action, will provide a most enjoyable tale that will project you happily into the next volume.
Isaac Blaze, a new role model to follow.
We are living strange times, in an era in which heroes are coming back to life in
the big screen and a relatively strange pattern of directors and comic authors in
trying to humanize villains and make them even more peculiar than our
protagonists, one can only wonder, what happen?
Now I’m facing a new dilemma, knowing Isaac Blaze and where to categorize
him, it’s badass that is certain, but what about the rest? Well that’s not even
why I’m writing this review, this is a question that merely came up while writing
this so, don’t mind me.
This is the most fast-paced action packed book I have read this year, everything
is so well written, it’s amazing how can all be detailed without distracting us so
much, Isaac steals the show in any way possible and the reviews I read in the
description are not lying, if the likes of Deadpool, Wolverine and so on impress
you well you are going to be fascinated this time.
